Here is the website of Dick Termes, an artist I had the pleasure of visiting the exhibit of while on vacation in South Dakota. He draws in 6-point perspective (so his drawings include what is in front of and behind the viewer) by drawing on spheres.
Emptiness (24", 1986)
These spheres look very, very cool in person. I like his spherical works because they involve an element of movement: you only need to stand in one place to appreciate a painting on a canvas, but you need to walk around a sphere to fully appreciate it. Apparently, Termes is the first artist to fully achieve six-point perspective, because it is not possible to draw with more than five vanishing points on a 2-dimensional piece of paper. Interestingly, he makes his sketches on Christmas Tree ornaments instead of sketchbook paper.
Here is the CV of Mr. Termes. It is very long (ten pages). He has definitely been in a lot of exhibits. A lot of places listed on the CV seem to be universities and schools, which makes sense, because while I was at his exhibit, I got the sense that he places a lot of emphasis on teaching others how to do art.
The way Mr. Termes incorporates movement into his art could be a value lesson for me to incorporate into my animation.
