Luo Li Rong

Rong is a female Chinese sculptor who creates realistic bronze works of attractive, dancing women, often draped in clothing. She uses Renaissance techniques in order to create these incredible artistic feats.

The artist's identity for these works interest me a lot. Rong's work focuses largely on extremely beautiful, Western women, however she has made pieces with Chinese women as well. She uses techniques from the Western World, which at the time of their inception, were reserved only for male artists. All in all, looking at these works at first glance, it looks like they were probably made by a white male. I understand that these works are meant to prove that anyone is capable of the technical heights that the Renaissance masters reached, but I'm curious as to why Rong chose these subjects. If I could have a conversation about her, I would ask her what she thinks about the role of the male gaze in art.
