If I'm being honest oil painting bores me out of my mind. However, here are some things I've learned so far:
linseed oil smells REALLY good
looking at "relative value" (the lightness or darkness of a color relative to the colors around it) is a good technique for making your images look real.
i think it's more interesting to put two separate colors in the same area to depict the color that area would be if those colors were combined? (ex: small streaks of yellow in a green area to paint yellow-green construction paper)
things usually don't look right until you've painted its surroundings. this is why we paint "one pass" then paint "another pass".
question: how are we supposed to paint fat over lean, if we're supposed to paint from least opaque to most opaque?
